At a glance – the most important functions and improvementsStandard and Extended modes
  • The Standard Mode enables the technologically inexperienced to operate the navigation software simply, intuitively and with a high degree of user-friendliness. It is restricted to the most common functions.
  • In Extended Mode, technically experienced users can access the OCN5 software’s full performance spectrum. You may for example plan itineraries with several stages.
Changing between the two operating modes is fast and uncomplicated. OCN5 is a navigation system that suits all needs.
CleverMap

Option of compiling and extending country maps as needed. The CleverMap function provides the option to comfortably compile personal map data. The map data for North America, Mexico, 27 European countries, and the Gulf States is supplied on DVD along with the software. The map for the user’s home country is ready for immediate use. Should additional maps are required, they can be activated online as needed on payment of a fee.  Learn more

Voice Command Function

Simple, secure voice entry. The Voice Command function enables simple destination selection by voice entry from an unlimited number of saved addresses. The function can also be operated while driving and thus increases both driving security and navigation comfort.

POIs

With NAVTEQ’s comprehensive maps you have access to more than 2,500,000 points of interest (POIs), such as restaurants, hotels, theatres, sights, etc., and can view either those in the immediate vicinity – e.g. the next petrol station – or across a region. Whatever you are looking for, OCN5 makes you feel at home in any city.

Signpost information

Important highways and place names corresponding to the actual sign post are displayed. You can now navigate confidently in complicated exits/junctions.

SpeedInfo

Displays the actual speed limits on streets. User can set a self-defined maximum limit by which to exceed the legal speed limit. A visual and acoustic warning occurs when driving above the legal speed and the self-defined warning speed limit. This function depends on the coverage of the maps made avilable to OnCourse Navigator.

Go Home Function

Navigate home at the touch of a button. The Go Home function allows direct navigation to a saved home address at the touch of a button.

Exact house number navigation on seamless continental maps
An optimization of the software’s performance enables the cross-border use of the entire North American (USA + Canada) or European map and thus permits international PDA navigation from door to door. (Note: For more info, please see seamless map packages which can be purchased thru CleverMap.)
Enchanced 3D-view

Enhanced 3D mode with 4 frames per seconds updates vs. 1 frame per second. End result is a very smooth moving 3D map view.

Native VGA support
If your Pocket PC supports QVGA and VGA resolution, OCN5 is able to run in both Portrait and Landscape mode.
Route planning with diverse reference points
Easy finger input for address plus POIs, Microsoft Outlook Contacts, Favorites, or Select on map.
Precise & accurate turn-by-turn spoken instructions with instant re-routing in case you missed a turn.
TMC Ready

Only available for Western European Maps and a compatible TMC module. Free TMC Traffic Congestion Avoidance (Traffic Message Channel). The integrated TMC function 3.0 receives up-to-the-minute traffic bulletins by radio 24 hours a day and, if there is traffic congestion, automatically provides an alternative route suggestion – free of charge. The traffic congestion avoidance function requires a corresponding receiver, e.g. the NAVIGON TMC module.

First off let me start off by saying i recently switched over from Delorm Street Atlus 2006 Handheld (SA2006HH for short). I recently got a new Dell Axim x50v and so i decided to also get OCN 5 to go with it. I used the gps feature three times to go to 3 different places that i had no clue how to get (well i knew how to get to one place but not the other two). The woman's vioce (while annoying, but not as annoying as others), was VERY accurate. I never took the wrong street and followed the commands perfectly. Here are the highlights of each place i went to. 1) A restruant. I didn't know where it was but i knew which road it was off too. I put the name in under "Pionts of interest" and the GPS took me an extremely fast route i didn't even know existed. 2) commute to work. I wanted to see if there was a faster way to work, and OCN 5 found one. When i was taking the route however, the route i was taking was under water (live in NE and it rained hard for like a week straight) so i used the block feature and it brought me to another road which was also blocked. I then blocked that road and had to do so about 7 times (not OCN 5 fault because all these roads had flooded). Finally, it got me where i had to go, and the block feature was fast and easy to use...not to mention that it worked perfectly. 3) I had to go my roomate's work to pick up something from him. I had no idea where he works, just his address. I didn't even recognize the name of the town. Regaurdless, i punched the address into the GPS, and followed directions. It took me places i never saw before. After multiple lefts and rights and an hour drive, i arrived. One thing i noticed was that the ETA was 100% accurate for this trip (i didn't notice on the others). I mean i pulled into the parking lot the exact minute it said i would. Also, the path i would have taken would have been 30 minutes longer. To summarize my experiences, I LOVE OCN 5. It worked better then i hoped and it was 100% accurate, fast, and got me where i had to go everytime. It never told me to turn where there was no way to turn (something SA2006HH did often), and it was VERY finger friendly, in that you don't need the stylus to operate the GPS, you could literally use your finger...that is also something most other GPS software can't claim. The only negative was that when typing in a name of a town, it doesn't do the autotyping, in that if you were to hit the abcd button, you would have to press this button 3 times to choose the letter C rather then it remove every city that did not begin with abcd. By using the process of elimation, it would have made it just a little bit easier. This is not a big deal at all, just would have made it easier. That is also not to say that the way it is now isn't easy. Thank you OCN, you now have a very loyal and sometimes annoying fan. BPisLife

just tested the software, it worked incredibly well. I went around, purposedly made bad turns, the software amazingly told me different routes or u-turn's. It is accurate to 300ft to destination. Before I got OCN5, used the software that came with the Pharos iGPS-360 GPS. It worked terribly and was a piece of waste. It gave lots of bad directions, and was so slow with recomputing routes. I would give Pharos software 1 star, out of five. I am glad to get this OCN5. Highly recommended. The only complaint I have is that, the software complained my map (Central South) is 12 months or older. It asked me to upgrade or purchase. I checked out http://www.oncoursenavigator.com/, but nothing is there. I will call OCN5 helpdesk to see if I can get more uptodate maps. Even with old maps that come with the purchase, it worked already amazingly. Try it, you'll not regret. Great work, OCN5 developers! Khoi N

"Just got back from a Thanksgiving trip from New Jersey to the area around Silver Spring, MD, Reston, VA, and Washington, DC. I ran both OnCourse Navigator 5 and TomTom Navigator 5 and both had the most recent NavTeq (OCN 5) and TeleAtlas (TomTom 5) maps. Well, there was no real comparison. In that area the NavTeq maps were clearly superior to the TeleAtlas ones. Construction is pretty much a constant activity in that area of the country and so no map source will ever be completely accurate, but when you ran both of them side-by-side it was immediately obvious that OCN5 was far ahead of TomTom in the accurate display of road conditions. As much as I love to have TomTom on my Treo 650, this was one trip that I had to rely on OCN 5 for directions." --by Paul Biba

A friend bought iGuidance, I bought OCN5. This product rocks! The GPS works flawlessly, and the maps are very detailed. Never again will I use my laptop and laptop GPS. OCN5 is one of the most intuitive, best designed pieces of software I have ever used. After seeing OCN5, My friend is now quite jealous of me”. OCN5 is so much better.

OCN5 Con's Can't preview the plotted route with a turns list. Does not provide telephone numbers for POI, nor can it search for a POI by phone number. Merely adequate database of POI's. Does not give indication as to what side of the road turns, exits or destinations will be on. Does not make a distinction between bearing or turning in a direction, which can be confusing if you do not focus on the screen to see what it really wants you to do. Pro's Nice uncluttered map display. Most selections can be made without stylus. 3D view is actually usable. Has grade and MPH indications.
